SERG Technology is developing StimSense, an intelligent algorithm that estimates Parkinsonian symptom severity from wearable sensor data. When combined with algorithmic search software, we demonstrated that StimSense can automate parts of and accelerate DBS programming. We recently showcased our study at the 3rd Expert Summit on the Future of DBS (https://dbs-expertsummit.de/) in Würzburg, Germany.

Our results show that:

  • StimSense predictions correlated well with clinician predictions in real-world clinical settings, for cardinal symptom assessments (tremor, bradykinesia, and rigidity)

  • With StimSense, algorithmic parameter search could identify DBS programs with clinical outcomes comparable to those of standard-of-care programming.

  • Most importantly, automatic programming could be completed under a median time of 1.5 hours.

The conference has given us unique insight into the current and future landscape of DBS and is prompting us to consider how our technology could be integrated to benefit patients. From image-guided and connectomic-informed programming to adaptive DBS to better manage symptom fluctuations.

We are committed to building tools that neurologists enjoy using and that positively impact their practice. That is why we are hard at work on built-in analytics, explain-ability of predictions, and the ease of use of our platform, whilst continuously extending its assessment capabilities.

Thank you again to the organisers and the scientific committee for a fantastic event.
